Continued shortfalls in RAM will continue until 2027 and will not improve until at least 2028

The third quarter of the 2026 fiscal year, on 24 June of local time, was marked by a large semi-conductor company, Misaki. At the meeting of Sanjay Mehrotra, Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of the United States of America, it was stated that the company had reached a record high during the quarter. The company expects a sustained surge in memory demand and tight supply over the long term.

As a semi-conductor enterprise in the United States, the Crucial brand was previously mainly oriented towards consumer-level market memory and SSD. The company currently sells mainly memory and storage products to commercial clients and has been involved in operations such as the AI Data Centre in recent years.

It is worth noting that in December 2025, Mei-Lang announced the launch of a consumer-grade product business on the grounds given by its Chief Commercial Officer, Sumit Sadana, that the rapid growth in the AI area has led to a sharp increase in the demand for memory and storage in the data centre.

The third quarter of American light shows that its revenue, gross profit margin and net profit per share have reached record highs. Of this amount, the data centre operation earned more than $25 billion and the data centre SSD received more than $5 billion, more than double the previous quarter. According to the Sadana analysis, the demand for the DRAM and NAND memory continues to exceed the supply of the industry, and the supply situation is expected to continue beyond 2027.

Around 2025, the rise of AI technology led to a surge in demand, increasing the problem of memory supply shortages. As noted earlier, the United States-lighted consumer brand, Crucial, has been shut down and has shifted to focus on AI data centre operations. In addition, PC manufacturers such as Dale and Sochi have also raised commercial PC prices on account of memory shortages.

The shortage of memory also affects the game industry. At the beginning of this year, Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 prices were raised by about Yen10,000; official PS5/PS5 Pro prices were also raised by Yen18,000; and Steam Deck made price adjustments of tens of thousands of yen. Recently, Microsoft also announced that the cost of Xbox Series X|S would increase by about $100 from August and that 2T versions would be cut off directly. It can be said that the price boom triggered by memory shortages is sweeping the entire industry.

It is worth mentioning that the world ‘ s leading semiconductor companies, Samsung and SK Hercules, also published record profits in their business profit reports at the end of April. The two companies, like U.S.S.S.S.G., expressed the view that the future of memory supply and demand would be “undersupply and price increases for years”.

It is anticipated that the situation of high memory prices will gradually improve after 2028, but no concrete vision of improvements in memory supply is yet available. In any case, the shortage of memory supplies is expected to continue for some time, and further price increases for various mainframes and PCs will require vigilance.
